COSTA RICA RETREAT PROGRAM:

BIENVENIDOS

You’re almost in Costa Rica! We are thrilled to have you be a part of this Surf & Yoga Retreat and are excited about the week of fun and inspiration planned.

Upon arrival at Liberia International Airport (LIR) please proceed through customs and look for the Tropic of Candycorn sign. Airport reception and transfer to the JW Marriott Guanacaste. Approximate transfer time is 90 minutes. Official check-in time at the resort is 3 pm daily.

Please note that optional tours (*) are not included in your vacation package, but can be purchased through our in-country representative by cash, Visa or Master Card.

Also note that GRATUITIES HAVE BEEN INCLUDED. We get stressed out when trying to determine an appropriate gratuity while traveling abroad. So, we decided to remove the stress for you. Even the bellboys and maids have been taken care of. So, when they insist on taking your bag (because they always do) hand it over with a smile, but no need to pass along any bills. They’ve all been taken care of.  We encourage you to include gratuities for services not included in the vacation package.

Remember to tag any photos from the retreat with #TOCMOMRETREAT so they can be included in a Chatbooks that will be mailed after the retreat. Each photo tagged @tropicofcandycorn and #TOCMOMRETREAT will count toward an entry for an 8-week personal exercise and nutrition course from Total Health & Fitness. The course can be done in person at their Draper, Utah location or virtually anywhere in the USA or Canada.

SPONSORS

Special thanks to all of our retreat sponsors, but especially our presenting sponsor, Extra Space Storage – a company that helps people make it through life’s transitions, big and small, by making room for life. They consider their work a privilege and take being in the transitions business seriously. They recognize you too are making room for life by being here at this retreat – and they applaud you for it.

PACKING

Have you already started packing? Here’s a recent travel tip on packing for beach destinations. Thanks to Aloha Collection, you don’t need to worry about packing a good beach bag. And unless you’re very particular about your yoga mat, leave it behind because Jade Yoga has created the perfect yoga mat for travelers — the Voyager.

We do recommend bringing a good pair of cross fit shoes to take advantage of the High Fitness class offered daily. You won’t believe how fast an hour of cardio will fly by.

Take a moment to check anything you plan to bring that plugs in. Costa Rican electrical sockets (outlets) are shaped the same as the US; however, they usually supply electricity at between 110 and 120 volts. Make sure that any electronics you bring support that range. Otherwise, pack a converter.

Please remember to bring sun protection and insect repellent (preferably one with DEET) and any necessary prescriptions.

We hope you were able to find something great from Beyond Yoga. You really can get away with wearing yoga gear and swimming suits all week long; however, you may want to come prepared to dress up a bit for the following:

Monday, May 2 Reception & Dinner
Dressy Casual

Friday, May 6 Beach Party
Beach Chic

MAKING MAGIC WORKSHOP
Dedicated to making magic in the every day and inspiring wonder for ourselves and children.AUTHENTIC MAGIC
Angie Monson, Simplicity Photography
It’s about to get real. As in the real you. As in connecting on a real level with others. As in creating a space for people in your life to really be themselves. And the joy of it all. Really. Just wait, it’s going to be magic.

SPARKING SIMPLE MAGIC
Merrilee Liddiard, Mer Mag Blog
Magic doesn’t have to be big and it doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, some of the best magic is simple. It’s all around us every day. The trick is finding it – and using it realistically.

EMBRACING THE MESSY SIDE OF MAGIC
Jahje Ives, Baby Jives Co.
Let’s face it, magic making can be messy. Especially if it involves kids. Then it’s usually squishy, colorful, explosive, gooey and chaotic. That’s exactly why so many of us try to avoid it.  (I mean, hello, there is homework to be done!)  But that’s also exactly why it’s so important to embrace it. Jahje employs that same mantra in her studio and often finds when she lets go of control and lets things get messy and loose they start to get really good. Because if you let magic get messy you’ll be left with a hurricane of happiness in your life and work.

YOUR MAMA BRAND WORKSHOP
Finding your voice in life and motherhood, moving beyond fear and guilt, owning your expertise and sharing it with others.YOU ARE &YOU AREN’T YOUR BRAND
Kim Wardell, Design Life Kids
It may seem like an oxymoron, but it’s true. Most brands have a story and that story is often very personal, especially if you have a blog, own a small shop or are a burgeoning entrepreneur. You’ve got to define the line between your story and your brand. But where’s the line between brand and self? And how do you balance them both?

FINDING YOUR PERSONAL BRAND
Kate Bell, Extra Space Storage
As women, we wear lots of different hats. We are friends, daughters, wives, aunts, moms (aka chauffeurs, teachers, counselors), co-workers, cooks, cleaners, landlords, sisters . . . and the list could go on forever. With each situation we take on different roles; sometimes we are the listening ear who counsels and helps to guide the person in need and sometimes we’re the one who needs a hug and a bit of encouragement. These different roles can create confusion as to who the real you is, especially if you are running a million miles a minute! Finding your personal brand is important to being true to yourself and to all the different roles you fulfill.

A SEASON WITHOUT A BRAND
Kat Dayton, Casa de Muchachos
You’ve got passions. You’ve got dreams. And you’ve got a family and obligations and work. Sometimes that doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for much else. The old proverb says, “there is time for everything, and a season for every purpose under heaven.” But what happens when you feel like your season will never come? How can we wait – with purpose?
